Sometimes partners dance holding each other tightly and romantically; in this case often most of the moves are made at the hips. As Konpa music continues its evolution, so has the dance. While Konpa dancing has always been an animated dance for pairs, it now enters a new stylistic era to meet the demand of the early s wave of konpa music. With so much fusion, Konpa now reluctantly open its doors to two new Konpa dance styles, Urban Konpa and Gouyad Dancing. Both styles are products of fused cross culture music and in-house remixed music. The Antilleans were all over with zouk but as other bands from the Caribbean and Africa added the MIDI technology to their music, people got used to it. Although most music came from Africa, Angola has been receiving Haitian influence for years. For instance, great meringue queen Haitian Martha Jean-Claude lent her voice and music to the Angolan revolution; she came with the Cuban troops. It is this rhythm that was confused with kizomba, and was heard in Portugal when Eduardo Paim arrived there and released his first record with kizomba music.

Nemours Jean-Baptiste presented his "Ensemble Aux Calebasses" in named after the club "Aux Calebasses" located at Carrefour, a western neighborhood of Port-au-Prince; Haiti's capital where the band used to perform on weekends. In , Nemours Jean-Baptiste -with the assistance of conga player Kreudzer Duroseau ans accordionist Richard Duroseau- created Compas Direct which has its roots in Haitian traditional Meringue and the Vodou traditional rhythms. Its popularity took off likely due to the genre's ability to improvise and hold the rhythm section steady and the facility with which dancers could absorb, feel and express the new rhythm. Nemours Jean-Baptiste incorporated a lot of brass and, in , the first electric guitar in Haitian urban dance music.

As we see in countries like Congo, some of the most joyous music comes from the most troubled countries. He would literally go into the homes of regular folks looking for treasures. The orishas the Africans brought with them helped sustain African identity both during the hideous middle passage and on the New World plantations. The African saints are still in Haiti, Cuba, and Brazil. We begin with a new side from the Cumbancha label, Lakou Mizik , a contemporary Haitian band. This is absolutely one of my favorite Haitian songs.
